Skoda has finally unveiled its new 3rd generation Octavia.
Based on the known MQB platform, which it shares with the Golf VII, Audi A3 and Seat Leon. The third generation Octavia is considerably longer and more efficient in every way, while maintaining the same level of quality that has made it celebrated throughout Europe.
Skoda said no other car in its class offers more space for your head and knees in the back seat, while the distinctive tapered shape allows more cargo space with 590 liters in the hatchback, one of the biggest in its class. As a comparison, the new Golf VII has a trunk of only 380 liters.
Thus, moving from the compact segment and stepping into the middle class arena, along with rivals Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Insignia.
The interior is graced with a clear and defined forms, with an enlarged central touchscreen, and high quality switches and buttons. In addition to richer equipment, Octavia managed to lose weight by a significant 102 kg, thanks to the new advanced platform.
As a result of this, a new pallet of engines brings a new level of efficiency. Although the new range of engines is yet to be presented, the “greenest” among them will be the 1.6 TDI Greenline diesel version with 110 hp. It brings in a regenerative braking system, Start & Stop system, a fuel consumption of only 3.4 liters and with 89 g / km CO ². Besides that, there is expected to be more powerful 2.0 TDI unit with various power levels on offer.
The TSI turbo petrol engine on offer starts with the 1.2 TSI with 85 hp and 105 hp, up to the 1.8 TSI 180 hp. Skoda has announced a version with integrated drive and a sporty RS version.
Sales begin at the start of 2013.
